This morning we attended to a house leak in Fairfield, a water meter test revealed a leak of 17285 litres per day. This is a very large leak. The land was undulating downwards and water was seen escaping from under a granny flat which was in front of the house. We isolated the granny flat to confirm the leak was in the main line. We introduced a combination of compressed air and tracer gas to locate the general vicinity of the leak to be uphill from the granny flat. Our client wished to save repair cost by doing some of the excavations himself. We assisted until it became clear the leak was most likely under a fair amount of concrete. The client continued with the excavation before engaging his local plumber to effect the repair. Leaks of this nature cost around $75 per day not to mention potential structural damage it may cause.
